Course Introduction
This course is provided free-of-charge with assistance from the LEI School Counseling Initiative Grant, to help School Counselors, School Social Workers, Mental Health Therapists, and K-12 students' parents with a variety of questions and issues related to academics, career, and college guidance, and social/emotional learning that impact educational success in the school setting. Please find a variety of media resources to address these outlined in the Modules in the course.

Meet the Instructor
Kelly Renteria-Evans, M.Ed., M.P.A., is a Visiting Professor of School Counseling in the Department of Education at Indiana University Southeast. Renteria-Evans has worked as a K-12 school counselor and teacher at the elementary, middle, and high school level and has extensive experience working with low-income and special-needs students. She has also served as director of a large TRIO Talent Search, which helps facilitate post-secondary educational opportunities to rural and urban potential first-generation students, and/or low-income students in middle and high school. This grant was based at Vincennes University. Prior to her work in the schools, Renteria-Evans served as project manager for a $2 million National Institutes of Health grant based as Indiana State University, as a family case manager for the Indiana Department of Child Services, as an adjunct faculty member in the Correction Education Program at Indiana State University, and as regional coordinator for a women’s health project. She was drawn to her current position at IU Southeast by a passion for helping carry out the vision and goals of large grant projects with the potential to support students and transform communities.
